Joe and Jess’ £184Million win makes May a record breaker
There were a whole host of big wins in May, but one in particular made headlines in the UK and further afield. Joe and Jess Thwaite became the country’s biggest-ever National Lottery winners by scooping an astonishing £184,262,899 jackpot in the EuroMillions draw held on 10th May 2022.
The Gloucester couple described the win as “surreal” when they were interviewed on national television. They decided to go public with their good fortune because they wanted to share the windfall with family and friends.
Jess, 44, said, “I don’t want to lie to family and friends, I want to enjoy it with them. Maybe, naively, I thought we could tell a few people and it would be fine. But the list gets longer and soon you realise it would be a burden asking them to keep it quiet. Telling people makes it easier.”
The couple are still getting used to their incredible good fortune, but Joe, 49, said treats for family and friends are top of the agenda. Joe said, “I’d love to watch Gloucester or England rugby live with the kids and I’d love us all to get on a plane and go on a holiday somewhere sunny.”
Joe and Jess weren’t the only National Lottery players celebrating in May – a total of 32 lucky players became millionaires.
Lotto was on fire with no less than 17 people becoming Lotto millionaires in May. A trio of lucky Lotto players scooped massive jackpots of £3.8Million, £8.5Million and £8.6Million.
While Joe and Jess Thwaite’s record-breaking EuroMillions win captured the headlines, the game made another 9 UK millionaires in May.
Thunderball was on a roll in May with 2 lucky players winning top prizes of £500,000 each.
Meanwhile, the Instant Win Game action was fast and furious with 6 players scooping prizes of £50,000 or more. The Super Multiplied game paid out a single prize of £100,000 and Monopoly Gold Classic made 3 players £100,000 better off. The Monopoly Jackpot game paid out £300,000 to a lucky player and Mega Cashworld Deluxe Blue delivered an amazing £500,000 prize.
May was also a busy month for National Lottery Scratchcards. A total of 17 players won big prizes with 2 lucky players scratching off £1Million prizes and 3 pocketing an incredible £2Million each.
